Interracial marriage was legalized in the U.S. in 1967 (in only 16 states). Fast-forward to 2016, interracial relationships are still an issue for some people after more than 40 years–a reality that even celebrities face.
Star of Sister, Sister and The Game, Tia Mowry-Hardrict talked with Khloé about how people have viewed her relationship with a black man as a biracial woman, and the struggles that her parents went through in their relationship.
“A lot of people want to believe that racism doesn’t exist. But my dad is white and my mom is black,” Tia said. “I see it all the time.”
She went on to talk about a particular experience that happened about 10 years ago. Her mom went to an affluent neighborhood to purchase a house and she was told that they were sold out.
“Then, my mom sent in my dad, who’s white,” she continued.
“I will say, my mom now has that house.”
Khloé chimed in to talk about facing prejudice in her high-profile marriage to Lamar Odom and comments on how “racism is real.”
