This week it’s Snooki v. Jionni: Kid-Room Showdown! With a limited budget Nicole needs to up-cycle wherever she can while also trying to one up Jionni! With tons of old plumbing lying around Nicole gets to work on an idea of replicating a high-end designer bed! It turns out to be a complete stunner! Follow the simple instructions below to get this jaw dropping soft industrial look of your very own – for a fraction of the price!

Supplies Needed:

• 7 (1” x 36” pieces of Galvanized Black Pipe)
• 4 (1” elbow pieces)
• 4 (1” close threaded pieces)
• 4 (1” flanges)
• 14 (1” x 6” pieces of Galvanized Black Pipe)
• 14 (1” t connectors)
• 2 (1” x 76” pieces of Galvanized Black Pipe)
• 2 cans spray metal spray paint (we used Hammered Metal)
• Plastic tarp
• Gloves

Steps:

1. Determine the size bed you are looking to make. We chose a twin size bed for the boys. The options are endless however, as you are able to increase the height of the headboard and footboard. This DIY hack can be easily altered to suit your specific needs.
2. Gather all of your pipefittings and lay out on a plastic tarp to spray all of the pieces for a uniform look. We chose a grey hammered metal spray paint. We used roughly 2 cans of spray paint for this project, however the amount of spray paint will vary based on the size bed you choose to make.
3. Once pieces are dry, you can begin the assembly. The first section we will be assembling is the headboard. Take one of your 36” pieces of pipe and screw one elbow piece on either end.

5. The next step is to assemble one 6” piece of pipe from each of the elbow pieces you assembled in step 3.
6. Affix one t – connector to each of the 6” pieces of pipe assembled in step 4. Keep in mind the t – connector should be placed in a fashion where the two holes are vertical and the single hole is horizontal. The single holes of the t-connector should face each other.
7. The next couple of steps will be fairly repetitive; we will be placing a 6” piece of pipe followed by a t-connector until we have a total of 3 pieces of 6” pipe and 3 t-connectors on either side of the headboard.

9. Now you will need 2 closed nipples, you will place one closed nipple on either end of the bed in the last t-connector assembled in step 6.
10. In this step you will need two t-connectors, one for each side of the headboard, this will be affixed to the other end of the closed nipple assembled in step 7. Keep in mind; the single hole of the t-connectors in this step should facing outward, as this piece will be used to connect the headboard to the footboard.
11. Next you will need two flanges, and 2, 6” pieces of pipe. Affix one flange to each of the 6” pieces of pipe and assemble one to each of the t-connectors added in Step 8. Now you can set aside the headboard for the time being and begin working on the footboard.
12. Now lets start on the footboard. The height of the footboard is limitless, however for continuity, we are going to show you exactly how Nicole created her twin bed for the boy’s room. In this step you will need to assemble one elbow piece to each respective end of a 36” piece of pipe.
13. Next, you be connecting a 6” piece of pipe to each of the elbow pieces assembled in step 10.
14. Affix one t – connector to each of the 6” pieces of pipe assembled in step 11. Keep in mind the t – connector should be placed in a fashion where the two holes are vertical and the single hole is horizontal.

17. Now you will need 2 closed nipples, you will place one closed nipple on either end of the bed in the last t-connector assembled in step 13.
18. In this step you will need two t-connectors, one for each side of the footboard, this will be affixed to the other end of the closed nipple assembled in step 14. Keep in mind; the single hole of the t-connectors in this step should facing inward, as this piece will be used to connect the footboard to the headboard.
19. Next you will need two flanges, and 2, 6” pieces of pipe. Affix one flange to each of the 6” pieces of pipe and assemble one to each of the t-connectors added in Step 15. Now you can set aside the footboard for the time being and begin working on the frame.
20. In this step you will be connecting the headboard and the footboard by assembling your 76” piece of pipe to the bottom 2 t-connectors on both the headboard and footboard. It would be helpful to have a few helping hand during this process so that one person could hold the headboard, while another person held the footboard as the pieces were being assembled.
21. Now that the headboard and footboard are connected, the final step is to add your remaining 36” pieces of pipe to the t-connectors. You may be wondering how these pieces are going to fit given sides are already assembled. It’s fairly easy. All you will need to do is to fully tighten the 36” piece on one end of the t-connector which will allow you to line up the fitting to the other side. Once you have everything in line you will begin slowly unscrewing the one side to allow the fitting grab to the other side. You will simply continue this process until you have used all of your remaining 36” pieces. There you have it, a simple DIY yet ultra expensive look for all under $150!
