Southern sweethearts Meghan and Josh from Season 1 of Arranged kept us on a rollercoaster ride of emotion from the moment they walked down the aisle. Between the move to a new state to issues with money management and major stress from the in-laws, Meghan and Josh had a lot to digest on their Southern-style plates as newlyweds.
Luckily, that Southern charm shined through in the end. When we last tuned in, Meghan and Josh were in a great place. We caught up with them to see what else has changed since Season 1 ended.
How have you both adjusted to the move?
Only being in Indianapolis one year makes it hard to really adjust and call Indy “home.” I think moving here, we both knew it would be a short year and we just needed to get through it. We have made great friends while here in Indy. They have definitely made the adjustment easier. We have not adjusted to the weather, we miss the warm weather back home.
Has your relationship with your in-laws changed since the end of Season 1?
Meghan: Last you saw of my in-laws was them giving us land to build on once we move back to South Carolina. Since then, my relationship with Lisa is a lot better. She has been extremely supportive of everything we do. Lisa and I talk all the time. She likes to send me pictures of things back home which is nice because she knows how much we miss home. She and Kurt have also been helping us a lot with the new house we’re building. My mother has also been extremely helpful during this stressful first year, I talk to her literally everyday and always have questions for her. I don’t know what I would do without my parents. They provide Josh and me with so much wisdom and advice.
Do you feel like you showed what it’s like to be modern, Southern newlyweds on the show?
Yes, I feel that we showed viewers what it is like to be modern Southern newlyweds. Viewers were able to see firsthand what newlyweds go through in their first year of marriage. Of course, we had some things thrown into the mix: moving hours away from everything we know and love, struggling to find a job, starting a job as a doctor and deciding when to start a family. All of these issues were extremely stressful on our marriage, but we got through it and it made us a stronger couple. We wouldn’t change ANY of it! We hope that newlyweds learned from us and hopefully some of our Southern traditions…how to cook banana pudding maybe? Haha.
What advice would you give to a young Southern couple who planned on getting into an arranged marriage similar to yours?
Our advice for young southern couples planning on getting into an arranged marriage similar to ours, would be to listen to your parents. Most of the time they know what’s best for you, we know our parents did.
Do you think you learned anything about yourself and your spouse from the show?
Josh: I learned to pick my fights. Sometimes you have to realize it’s not worth causing an argument. I also learned that Meghan has to deal with a lot because of my career. She has always been willing to give up everything just to be with me. Seeing this on the show has only made me more appreciative of her.
Meghan: I learned a lot about myself from the show. One of the biggest things I took away from the show was that my view of my body is not always correct and I should be more confident. And I learned that even though Josh might be harsh sometimes, he is only looking out for me and our family. He only wants what’s best for us. I know it’s hard for Josh to tell me how he feels, so seeing him on the show and all the sweet things he said about me made me love him more. 🙂
What’s next for you both?
We are excited to, once again, start another new chapter in our lives. In 6 short weeks, we are moving to Nashville, TN. Yes, we will be starting over again in a new city, but we have had practice so we know what to do and what not to do. Meghan is currently looking for a job. She is excited to officially start her career in healthcare. Josh will be starting his radiology residency at Vanderbilt. And of course, J’Gandalf is very excited to move and have a backyard to play in. Lastly, we are adding a new addition to our family soon… we are getting another puppy. And for those who are wondering, we are trying to have a baby, so hopefully we’ll have exciting news soon. Fingers crossed, please. 🙂
