1. Change up the photos and art on your wall.
Print out more recent photos or make it a point to take some new ones this summer. You can also support local businesses and look for new illustrations and small paintings by local artists. Re-use frames or try hanging the print from a wall clip for a more relaxed look.
2. Rearrange your furniture.
It doesn’t sound like much, but moving your couch to a different wall or (gasp) even in the middle of the room, will make your space feel like new. It’s a free and easy way to rejuvenate your home and kick off the season.
3. Get a new scent.
Get rid of old candles/oils and try a fresh and energizing scent. You may not be able to get to the beach this weekend, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring the beach home. You’ll feel energized just walking into the room!
4. Bring nature in.
Bring some life into the corners and table tops in the room with new plants. Try a succulent for a different look or even a tiny herb garden for the kitchen.
5. Eat outside.
We know, we know, it’s hot, but dust off the patio furniture, get the bug spray and invite some friends over. Breathing in some fresh air with friends and family is energizing. Don’t have an outdoor space? Give the kitchen a night off and picnic in the park or eat in an outdoor café. Yes, part of welcoming summer is just getting out of the house!
6. Get your summer drink on.
Save the red wine and stouts for the cool, fall air and try a rosé, riesling or experiment with a new cocktail (recipes here). If alcohol isn’t your thing, infuse lemon, cucumber or other fruits in your water for a refreshing spin.
